Prompt: Throughout this module, we assessed challenges to—and the ultimate collapse of—the Classic Liberal order, a broader phenomenon we referred to as “The Crisis of Meaning.” Specifically, we addressed how events during WWI, the interwar period, and WWII affected relationships between government and the governed. One way of thinking about these relationships is the notion of citizenship, i.e., the mutual responsibilities between the state and the people.

With this in mind, to what extent did ideas of citizenship—the mutual responsibilities between the state and the people—change over the course of this module? In other words, in what ways were Classic Liberal ideas of citizenship challenged during this time, and conversely, in what ways did they stay the same?
